Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs Frozen homemade meatballs or store-bought
  • 2 yellow onions sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp each black pepper and thyme
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 10 oz can condensed French onion soup
  • 3/4 cup low sodium beef broth
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 12 oz bag egg noodles
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (optional)
  • 1 tbsp cold water (optional)

Instructions

  • Add frozen meatballs to your crockpot. Top with sliced onions, butter, and season with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, black pepper, and thyme.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, French onion soup, and low sodium beef broth.
  • Cook on low for 4-6 hours. Stir a few times while the meatballs cook.
  • For thicker gravy you can add a cornstarch slurry. Mix 1 tbsp cornstarch with 1 tbsp cold water. Stir this into the slow cooker. This will thicken while you cook the egg noodles.
  • If serving over egg noodles, boil a package following the directions on the package.
  • Top meatballs with shredded mozzarella cheese and let sit in the crockpot until melted. Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice. Top with dried parsley. Enjoy!

Notes

See my Frequently Asked Questions section for more tips!
  • I make Homemade Meatballs and keep them in the freezer for recipe like this one! If you don't want to make homemade meatballs, a bag of frozen store-bought meatballs will be just fine! Use any variety your family likes. Either the Homestyle or Italian variations will work in this recipe.
  • I use shredded mozzarella cheese on these meatballs because I always keep it stocked in the refrigerator. You could use Gruyère, Swiss, or Provolone cheese.
  • I prefer to use low sodium beef broth in this recipe since the can of condensed French onion soup has salt in it and if you use store-bought meatballs they could also be higher in salt.
  • Once your meatballs are finished cooking, if you want your gravy to be a thicker consistency add a cornstarch slurry. This will help thicken the gravy.
