Honey Mustard Smothered Chicken
Honey Mustard Smothered Chicken is an easy and delicious dinner recipe the whole family will love! I like serving this with a baked potato and some roasted broccoli.
This is an easy recipe I prefer to make outside on my griddle, but it can also be made inside on the stove.
This recipe uses seasoned chicken breast, honey mustard, onions, shredded Colby Jack cheese, and bacon.

Ingredients
- 1 lb chicken breast
- 1/2 tsp each salt and pepper
- 1 tsp each of onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika
- 1 onion sliced
- Honey mustard
- 8 pieces of bacon
- Shredded Colby Jack cheese
Make Honey Mustard Smothered Chicken
To start making this easy recipe, cut the chicken breasts in half lengthwise to make them thinner.
Next, heat a griddle or skillet over medium low heat and add the bacon. Cook the bacon until it is nice and crispy.
Remove the cooked bacon from the griddle and allow the bacon to drain on some paper towels.
Spread out any remaining bacon grease over the surface of the griddle. This will help the chicken not stick to the griddle and will also give the chicken some of the great bacon flavor.
Next, add the chicken and a sliced onion to the griddle. I made some roasted broccoli as an easy side dish for this recipe. I added the broccoli when I added the onions to the griddle.
Season the chicken with salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, and paprika. For some heat you can also add 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes.
If you like mushrooms, they are a great addition to this recipe and similar to the popular Alice Spring’s Chicken recipe from Outback. I’m not a huge fan of mushrooms, so I usually leave them out. If adding mushrooms cook them with the sliced onion.
Let the chicken cook on both sides until it is golden brown and reaches an internal temp of 165 degrees F.The chicken will cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side depending on how thick the chicken breasts are.
Once the chicken is cooked, brush some honey mustard over the chicken. I like using Ken’s Steak House Honey Mustard for a store-bought option.
You can also easily make some homemade honey mustard if you prefer to do that.
Top the chicken with the cooked onions and a handful of shredded Colby Jack cheese. I like shredded my own cheese from a block for a creamier consistency.
Finally, cover the smothered chicken with a griddle dome until the cheese melts.
Serve Honey Mustard Smothered Chicken
Once the cheese is melted, it’s time to eat! Top each piece of chicken with some of the crumbled cooked bacon. I served this with some broccoli and baked potatoes.
This recipe would also be awesome with some baked macaroni and cheese, Broccoli Salad, or Cheesy Funeral Potatoes.
