How to Make Sloppy Joes

I like making my own sauce for Sloppy Joes, but if you prefer the can of sauce for Sloppy Joes that will definitely work too!

Start by browning a pound of ground beef in a skillet over medium high heat. Add the chopped onion and let those start to cook down.

Next, add the seasonings! I season Sloppy Joes with salt, pepper, onion powder, and paprika. Give this all a good stir and drain any grease from the beef once it has browned.

Once the beef is browned be sure to really drain any extra grease from the meat.

After browning the meat you want to go ahead and add 1 TBSP of minced garlic, 1-2 TBSP of Worcestershire sauce, 8 oz of tomato sauce, 1/4 cup of ketchup, 1 TBSP of mustard, and 2 TBSP of BBQ sauce. Stir everything together well and let the mixture simmer on low.

How to Assemble the Sliders

To make the sliders, start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees. Carefully slice open the sliders using a large sharp knife.

Spray a baking pan or baking dish with cooking spray and put the bottoms of the Hawaiian Rolls on the pan.

Next, add a layer of American cheese. You can use any cheese you would like for this recipe, but I like how American cheese gets nice and melted.

Now you are going to add a layer of the Sloppy Joe mixture. I used just about all of the meat mixture on the sliders. Top the Sloppy Joe mixture with a handful of shredded cheddar cheese.

Lastly, add a layer of crispy fried onions to the top of the sliders. These onions add great flavor and some crunch. I didn’t use exact measurements for the onions I just used enough to cover the top of the Sloppy Joes.

Next, add the tops of the slider rolls back on the sandwiches. The last step to making the sliders is making the butter mixture and spreading it over the tops. Melt butter and stir in some garlic powder and onion powder. Use a basting brush to brush the butter over the tops of the Hawaiian rolls. I like to sprinkle sesame seeds on top of the butter mixture before putting them in the oven.

These sliders will bake in the oven at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Just keep an eye on the sliders to make sure they don’t get too brown. They really just need to bake long enough to melt the cheese.

Serve Sloppy Joe Sliders

Once the Sloppy Joe Sliders have baked it’s time to eat! Carefully slice the sliders and plate them. We had these with some broccoli salad and it was delicious. The sliders would be good with fries, tater tots, pasta salad, salad, or green beans!
