Make Homemade Burger Sauce
To start making this easy dinner recipe, prep the homemade burger sauce! You can definitely buy store-bought burger sauce or even use Thousand Island dressing, but the homemade sauce is super easy to make with a few ingredients you probably already have in your refrigerator.
In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup mayo, 1/8 cup or 2 tbsp of yellow mustard, and 2 tbsp sweet relish.
Stir everything together well. You can keep this in the refrigerator while you prep and make the recipe.
I like to put mine in a plastic condiment bottle to make it easier to put on the potato skillet, but you can also keep it in the bowl and use a spoon.
Make Cheeseburger Potato Skillet
First, prep the potatoes for the recipe. Start by peeling, washing the potatoes, and cutting them up into cubes.
If you don’t have any bacon leftover from breakfast, you will also need to cook some bacon at this time.
I prefer to bake the bacon in the oven on a sheet pan lined with parchment paper. It bakes at 400 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes.
Toss the potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika (I donโt use exact measurements for this part). Just make sure the potatoes are well coated in oil and seasonings.
Cook potatoes in the air fryer at 400 degrees F for about 20-25 minutes shaking them around at least a couple times while they cook.
Heat a skillet over medium high heat. Add the ground beef to the skillet with a chopped onion. Season the ground beef with salt, pepper, ground mustard, onion powder, garlic powder, and smoked paprika.
When the beef is fully cooked, drain any extra grease. Add the minced garlic and stir well.
Once the potatoes and ground beef are cooked combine them together in the skillet and top with shredded Colby Jack cheese and the cooked crumbled bacon.
Put the skillet in the oven at 400 degrees F to melt the cheese.
Serve Cheeseburger Potato Skillet
Once the cheese is melted, it’s time to eat! Top the potato skillet with the burger sauce and chopped green onions. Enjoy!
I like to keep mine simple with just the homemade burger sauce and green onions, but you can also add as many of your favorite burger toppings as you’d like!
My wife added shredded lettuce, pickles, and sliced grape tomatoes on top of hers.
You’ll love this recipe because its pretty quick and easy to make, made with simple ingredients, and the whole family can customize their plates with any toppings they like!
Tips and Frequently Asked Questions
- Use a cast iron skillet so you can melt the cheese in the oven. If you donโt have an oven-safe skillet, just place a lid on top of your skillet on the stove to melt the cheese.
- Shred your own block of cheddar cheese for a richer and smoother melted cheese.
- I like using my own blend of seasoning for the ground beef, but if you have a favorite burger seasoning blend you can use that instead!
- The Homemade Burger sauce is super easy to make, but if you are short on time you can always buy a store-bought sauce or even use Thousand Island dressing.
- Add any of your favorite burger toppings!
- If you don’t have an air fryer, you can cook the potatoes in the oven at 400 degrees F for about the same amount of time. Sometimes they take a little bit longer to get crispy in the oven, but it will work. It also helps to stir them around a couple of times while they cook.
