BBQ Chicken Totchos (Tater Tot Nachos) are an easy and delicious dinner or appetizer that can be made outside on a griddle or inside using the oven.
I make these using chicken, BBQ sauce, shredded Colby Jack cheese, crispy bacon, ranch dressing, and green onions. I prefer using the Crispy Crowns, but tater tots can also be used.

Ingredients
- 8 strips bacon
- 30 oz crispy crowns or tater tots

- 1 tsp each garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika
- Colby Jack Cheese
- Buffalo Wild Wing’s Honey BBQ sauce
- Ranch dressing
- 2 chopped green onions
Make BBQ Chicken Totchos
To start making this easy recipe, cut 1 lb of chicken breast into cubes. Chop 2-3 green onions and set aside.
Next, heat a griddle over medium-high heat. Cook the 8 strips of bacon until crispy, remove it from the griddle, and spread the bacon grease over the griddle.
Add the bag of crispy crowns to the griddle and let them cook until they are golden brown and crispy. Keep flipping them as they cook.
Once the bacon has cooled, crumble or chop it into small pieces and set aside.
Add the cubed up chicken to the griddle. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.
Once the chicken is fully cooked, turn off the heat and add some Buffalo Wild Wings Honey BBQ sauce to the chicken and stir well.
I like to add just enough of the sauce to coat the chicken.
Top the crispy crowns with Colby Jack cheese and cover with a griddle dome until the cheese is melted.
Serve BBQ Chicken Totchos
Once the Colby Jack cheese has melted, it’s time to eat! Top the cheesy crispy crowns with the bbq chicken, ranch dressing, crispy bacon, and chopped green onions. Enjoy!
Tips and Frequently Asked Questions
- 30 oz of Crispy Crowns or Tater Tots can be used for this recipe.
- I really like using Buffalo Wild Wings Honey BBQ sauce for this recipe, but you can use your favorite sauce.
- These would also be really good with Buffalo sauce or Parmesan Garlic sauce if you aren’t feeling BBQ sauce.
- I shred my own Colby Jack cheese from a block for a creamier consistency, but you could also use cheddar cheese or Pepper Jack for some heat.
- If you don’t have a griddle this recipe can be made inside using a stove/oven. I would bake the Tater Tots and cook the bacon and chicken in a skillet. Top the tots with cheese and pop them back in the oven, then assemble the rest of the ingredients.
- You can customize this recipe to include any of your favorite toppings!
