Mashed Potatoes

Homemade Mashed Potatoes are an easy side dish for so many delicious dinner recipes! This has been my go-to simple recipe for years now!

Ingredients

  • 5 Russet potatoes
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) of butter
  • 1/2 cup of sour cream
  • 1/2 cup of milk
  • 1/2 tsp each of salt and pepper
  • 1 tsp of garlic powder
  • 1 TBSP fresh or dried parsley flakes

Make Easy Mashed Potatoes

To start making this easy homemade mashed potato recipe, peel and wash 5 medium sized russet potatoes. Cut the potatoes into large chunks and place them in a pot.

Next, add water to the pot making sure the potatoes are covered in water. Place the pot of water and potatoes on the stove over high heat. Bring to a boil. Let the potatoes boil until the potatoes are fork tender.

Once the potatoes are fork tender, remove them from the stove and drain all of the water out of the pot.

After draining the water, place the pot of potatoes back on the hot burner with the heat turned off. Add the stick of butter, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of sour cream, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and parlsey.

Finally, use a potato masher to mash the potatoes well making sure the butter melts and sour cream gets incorporated. My family likes mashed potatoes on the “lumpier” side, so I just use a potato masher. If you want a smoother consistency you can “mash” them with a hand mixer to get a smoother consistency.

After the potatoes are mashed, if they seem dry you can always add a little bit more milk or a couple extra pats of butter.

Serve Homemade Mashed Potatoes

Once the potatoes are mashed to your liking, top them with some extra dried or fresh parsley! We served the mashed potatoes with some roasted vegetables and bacon wrapped steak bites.

So glad I came across your page. You take the think work out of having to scroll through pinterest to find something that looks good and put together a grocery list. I’ve gotten a little burnt out over the years and we were eating takeout way to much. Thanks for having normal and easy meals that don’t break the bank, nor require a zillion steps.
